Get accountable to others

This step is absolutely critical to long term success and victory over your sin. Both research and the experience of millions of people fighting various addictions show that personal accountability is a make or break factor. With it, victory is much more likely. Without it, victory is practically impossible. Watch the video and check out the items below to help you find suitable allies in the battle against Satan’s deadly schemes.

Accountability 101

Most every addiction specialist agrees: The power of addiction is in the secret. The sins we try to cure on our own rarely get cured since we are robbed of the communal strength and support of the family of God.

As the video explained, God most often helps us indirectly by using friends, family, and fellow Christians to strengthen and support us on the road to recovery.

But whom should you tell? Here is the list of the four most important people on your accountability team (in no particular order):

Despite the fear of that initial conversation, the more accountable you are, the stronger you will be. Prayers work. Reminders of God’s grace forgive and inspire. Encouragement helps. So, don’t be afraid of the moment of confession. Instead, be amazed at the blessings that follow that confession.

Other allies

A committed Christian accountability partner is essential, but there are other important resources available as well. The Conquerors Through Christ team has found the following to be useful in the struggle:

  • Books for the addict, the spouse, or concerned person in general
  • Evaluation of filtering software to assist in prevention and accountability

Step 2: Get Back To God’s Grace

This is the most important step and the one that is most often overlooked. Watch Pastor Mike Novotny's video to hear that your heavenly Father loves you desperately and has sent his Son to show it. In the power of forgiveness and compelled by his love, get motivated to face Satan and this sin head on.

Step 3: Get Rid Of Porn

Because of the addictive nature of this sin, conquering it takes an intense spiritual, emotional, and physical struggle. It's important to accurately portray the fierceness of that struggle, so that you don't underestimate it. But we also try to show that despite all the power that Satan has going for him, Christ is infinitely stronger.

Get Ready for Battle

Step 5: Get Ready For Battle

Having a battle plan is also crucial for victory. You need to know what to expect, what kind of counterattacks Satan will throw at you. You also will need plans for how you will respond, and who will be making sure you follow through on your plan.
