Judah

The Old Testament believer named Israel (aka Jacob) had twelve sons, one of whom would be the ancestor of Jesus himself. After hearing the story of those sons, no one would guess Jesus would come from the line of Judah. One day, Judah traveled to a neighboring village and slept with a prostitute. Later, when he heard that his daughter-in-law, Tamar, was guilty of prostitution and pregnant, he demanded death for her despicable sin. Not only was Judah an unbelievable hypocrite, he was the man who slept with her! Yet, in his mercy, God forgave both Judah and Tamar and even chose him to be the ancestor of the sinless Savior of the world.
You and your family may have a history of dysfunction and sexual sin that leads you to assume God would keep as far away from you as possible. Not true. Judah’s story proves that Jesus, in his infinite mercy, is willing to get in the middle of sinful stories and save sinners. You are no exception to that rule.
